Swanson's Cash and Carry was founded by C.O. Swanson in 1905, and catered to the needs of the people of Grays Harbor in the early 20th Century. Sons Chuck and Carl Swanson assumed the business in the early 1930's. The two brothers proceeded to build Swanson's Foods into three full-service supermarkets.

Simpson Avenue, Aberdeen store was built in 1953, then doubled in size in 1963. The Hoquiam store was built at its present location in 1959. The South Aberdeen store was completed in 1964.

These markets were innovative and progressive, including departments that were revolutionary then - and have become industry standards today; such as in-store pharmacy at South Aberdeen, Snack Bar and restaurant at the two Aberdeen sites, hardware and sporting goods departments, video rentals, money orders, money grams, and much more!

Over the years, these three supermarkets have undergone enlargements, modernizatons and installation of the latest technologies.

As we entered the 21st Century, the brothers passed the management of the operation to Mark Swanson, representing the third generation of the Swanson family.

Following tradition, the Swanson's stores continue to be upgraded and modernized, striving to meet the needs of the people of Grays Harbor today, and in the years to come.
